OTHER SERVICES
Family Counselling is provided to family members to deal with issues related to the pressures and stress of parenting a child with autism, adult with autism, parenting the sibling of a child with autism, living in a nuclear or joint family, second child issues, or any other concerns families may have. Appropriate coping strategies are discussed and developed with inputs from class teachers, psychologist and consultant. Parents also receive referrals to schools and services elsewhere.
AWF has also conducted practical and interactive training workshops for parents and professionals on various aspects of autism. AWF has also helped several individuals and organizations to set up clinical services to provide support and services of families and children with autism in their region.
There is a scope of parents to observe the class on a regular basis as per schedule to monitor the development of their children and the way of teaching. Parents can observe the child’s general progress and also discuss about their queries so that the work can be continued at home.
Most professionals acknowledge that the treatment which has proven effective over time for the largest percentage of individuals with autism is a structured educational program geared to the individual’s development level. Children should follow a structured, safe and friendly Home Management program. Tailored to individual needs, structure for daily routines and activities that the family carries out with the child at home are provided. The program also gives families an opportunity to discuss and arrive at solutions to vexing issues of behaviours and learning of daily living skills. During home visit, teachers visit home of the children as a part of door step service, ensuring that the children receive same management at school and home both. Programs for Home Management are schedules and plans jointly designed by parents and Kanon teachers.
AWF encourages and reinforces teachers’ sincerity and dedication towards their performance. To show appreciation and recognition, AWF started the program “Highest Attendance of the Year” ever since its inception in 2004, where teachers and staff members having high attendance rates are honoured. Runner Group of Companies have sponsored this program every year. This year, the highest attendance program was held on 5th July 2024.
