Awareness Raising Activities

Increasing awareness of autism is essential for medical practitioners in order to make accurate diagnosis, and for society to begin integrating autistic individuals into mainstream lifestyle.
AWF has undertaken various initiatives to increase awareness and understanding about autism among parents and professionals as well as the general public. AWF continues to raise awareness among the general public through the following activities.

AWF actively seeks partnerships with other non-government organizations and persons interested in autism within the country and abroad. These relationships help impart experiences and ensure that support is provided to as many families as possible. At present, AWF is a member of “Shishu Bikash Network”, and participates in seminars and workshops arranged by the Network. AWF also works with Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP). AWF offers placement options for the students of Speech Language Therapy division of CRP. AWF also organizes seminars and workshops jointly with the Department of The Institute of Education and Research (IER), Dhaka University. Another placement option available is for students of the Department of Psychology, Dhaka University. AWF is a member of National Forum of Organization Working with Disabled (NFOWD). AWF is also a member of Jatiyo Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation Bangladesh. Moreover, AWF participates in various seminars, workshops organized by Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF) as a networking member.

One of the most important activities of AWF is to raise awareness on autism all over the country. AWF regularly publishes articles in various print media like The Daily Star, “Prothom Alo”, and has actively participated in different television programs from 2004 till date. These features include talk shows and live telecast programs on autism. Activities of students of Kanon were telecasted in BTV, NTV, Channel I, ATN Bangla and RTV.

AWF publishes leaflets and brochures every year with brief information on the symptoms of autism, to raise awareness among paediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists, special educators, community people and parents. Every year, Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. publishes their annual calendar which features artworks created by the students of Kanon. Since 2010, the calendar of Autism Welfare Foundation has been published each year under the sponsorship of Berger Paint Bangladesh Limited.

AWF publishes a quarterly newsletter named “Torongo” which exhibits scientific articles from educators, teachers and parents of Kanon.
On 17 January 2026, Volume 14 Issue 2 of the newsletter has been published, which mainly focuses on creating mass awareness on autism, science-based education training for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) students, increasing research and creativity on autism, as well as an overview of the session 2025-26 in regard to AWF's activities.

A magazine named “Kanon” is published every two years, in which teachers, special educators, parents and students of Kanon: School of AWF participate actively. AWF published its 11th annual magazine in 2025, on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the organization and World Autism Awareness Day 2025.

As part of raising awareness both at government level and non-government level, every year AWF prepares an annual report presenting its key activities, financial statement, organizational structure, future plan etc.
